Calypso Medical Study Shows Potential For Improving Radiotherapy Treatment Accuracy Of Deadly Pancreatic Tumors
Calypso Medical Technologies, Inc., announced the publication of data from a clinician sponsored investigational study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania, demonstrating the utility of the Calypso® System in tracking tumor movement in the pancreas. The data will be presented at the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), July 26-30, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Developed Countries Must Address Global Warming To Prevent Disease, Hunger In Developing World
Pollution from the world"s wealthiest countries is spreading disease and hunger in developing countries, according to a new Oxfam International report, which calls on developed countries to address global warming when G8 leaders meet in Italy, the Globe and Mail reports. The report, titled "Suffering the Science: Climate Change, People and Poverty," says, "It is in the tropics where the bulk of humanity lives - many of them in poverty - that climate change is hitting now and hitting hardest" (Bailey, 7/6).

Launch Of New National Genome Centre
The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC) will further the UK"s capacity in genomics - the science of understanding the genetic makeup of organisms and the genetic differences that exist between individuals. This knowledge can then be used for developments that include the production of new antibiotics to fight "superbugs", breeding of new crops with increased tolerance of drought, and the breeding of livestock better able to resist emerging exotic disease. TGAC will underpin these advances as well as making a significant contribution to economic development.

Young Diabetes UK Supporters Wow The BBC

Diabetes UK supporters Harrison Ward, 11, and Cole Barnard, 6, appeared on BBC 1"s The One Show this week to highlight inequalities in support for children with diabetes at school. The young stars were interviewed by presenter Dominic Littlewood, who has Type 1 diabetes. The programme also featured Diabetes UK Care Advisor Libby Dowling explaining the possible causes of Type 1 diabetes. Paul McDonald, Head of Media at Diabetes UK, said: "This was an excellent programme that helped to raise awareness of the importance of appropriate support at school for all children and young people with diabetes. The primetime show also highlighted the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. "I would like to thank Harrison, Cole, their parents and Harrison"s school for taking part."
